UNDERSTANDING THE FLEA
For millions of pets and people, the tiny flea is a remorseless enemy. The flea is a small, brown, wingless insect that uses specialized mouthparts to pierce the skin and siphon blood.

Make a resolution to start the year right for your pet! Many people include losing weight as one of their resolutions for a new year; this can be a great goal for Fluffy and Whiskers, too! Did you know that being overweight can affect your pet's health the same way it affects ours? Diabetes, respiratory problems, and joint and back problems are a few of the things we commonly see in overweight pets.
Many owners feel badly when their pet stares at them sadly, looking "hungry." However, if your pet has come to associate treats with attention, they are looking for that positive reinforcement and bond with you more than the cookie (not that they don't also love the treat...). Remember, food is NOT love! Spending time with your pet, playing with them, interacting with them, and letting them know they are loved and cared for are what's important - and one of the best ways you can love and care for them is to help prevent problems by keeping their weight healthy. Remember, many of us will snack throughout the day, even when we're NOT hungry, and the same goes for our pets.
Below is a nifty chart which lists the most common calorie counts in the treats we give our pets...there are some really surprising numbers! Remember, many pets need between 200 - 800 calories a day, total!
Did you know…?
The number of calories in dog treats can be surprising. Daily treats should be less than 10% of total daily calorie intake. Where does your pet stack up?
